2017 Building Safety Month Theme Set

The theme for May 2017’s Building Safety Month is “Code Officials: Partners in Community Safety and Economic Growth.” The announcement was made February 1, 2017, by the International Code Council (ICC), which sponsors Building Safety Month. This year marks the 37th annual worldwide public safety campaign.

During May, ICC’s 60,000-plus members, along with other professionals in the construction and design community, will conduct events including school assemblies, hosting information booths at builder supply stores, and implementing proclamation signing ceremonies to increase awareness about the importance of building and remodeling to modern codes and standards.

Of particular interest to the hurricane protection industry is week three, May 15 to 21, with the theme “Manage the Damage—Preparing for Natural Disasters.” The other weekly themes for the month are: Mentoring the Next Generation of Building Professionals (May 1 to 7); Building Design Solutions for All Ages (May 8 to 14); and Investing in Technology for Safety, Energy and Water Efficiency (May 22 to 28).
