Florida Big Bend First to Feel Colin

Tropical Storm Colin approaches the Florida Big Bend area Monday night, June 6, 2016, and is expected to come ashore sometime Monday night, according to the National Hurricane Center. Colin is forecast to move across northern Florida and southeastern Georgia early Tuesday morning.

Colinís maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts and some strengthening is forecast on Tuesday and Tuesday night, NHC states. Tropical storm winds currently extend outward up to 230 miles from the stormís center.

Colin is expected to produce rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches with isolated maximum totals of 8 inches possible across northern Florida, southeastern Georgia and coastal areas of the Carolinas through Tuesday. The combination of a storm surge and the tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters.
